Monumental Antique Imperial Meiji Japanese Dragon Carved Bench Trunk Chest 70"

Description

Imperial Japanese Meiji Period Dragon Bench. Features high relief carved accents and under seat storage. From top to bottom this piece is ordained with three toed dragons. The crown is pierced with a serpentine dragon sprawling through a field of clouds. The seat backing features three inset panels showing a phoenix centered between two inward facing dragons. Backing is flanked by figural arms carved in the manner of gnarling dragon with thick scales and a ball in mouth over reticulated floral designs. The rectangular form base shows a dragon face at the center and winged dragons over ball and claw foot along the corners, offset by a floral pattern in between. Base is supported by bun feet. An exquisite design that will make a statement in any setting.

Condition

Good antique condition, wear and distressing commensurate with age and use, finish loss along the bottom edge, some missing beads along the trim.
