Rare Antique Hand Painted Tibetan Lacquered Tiger Trunk Storage Blanket Chest

Description

An impressive Tibetan storage from the first quarter of the 20th century. A wooden frame richly finished with lacquered leather hide and banded iron hardware. The front is hand-painted with a tiger at the center and framed in tigere stripes The tops, sides and back have an orange tiger stripe framing with blue framing. Common motifs in Chinese and Tibetan Buddhist art, tigers are symbols of strength, fearlessness, power, and authority.
