Description
Large vintage Persian Sarouk area rug / carpet featuring a floral motif with red field accented with blues and tans.
The history of Persian Sarouk rugs can be traced back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The town of Sarouk, has been a traditional rug weaving center for a long time. The rugs that were woven in Sarouk before the late 1800s were likely similar in style to village rugs in nearby Ferahan. Antique Persian Sarouk rugs were often used as diplomatic gifts and to decorate the homes of nobility. The industry fell into ruin at the end of the Safavid Dynasty due to military conflict. In the late 1800s, a group of master Persian weavers tried to restore the industry.
Sarouk rugs are known for their rich colors, harmony, and complementary design. They are often made with natural dye colors and have a lot of variety in highlight colors. Antique Sarouk rugs age well and look even better over time.
