Description
An exceptional Bachelors Chest, Buffet, or Dresser by Union National, circa 1940s. Designed in George III styling with a dramatic serpentine mahogany case featuring four sliding dovetailed drawers and a pull-out tray for service. The chamfered stiles of the chest showcase foliate carving along the top and fluting towards the base. Drawers are accented by cross banding and inlay. Drawer pulls are made from brass with an ornate central pineapple plate and neoclassical ribboned knocker. The dresser is supported by bracket feet. Maker’s mark along the inside of the top drawer.
Union National, formerly Union Furniture, was a furniture manufacturer known for high-grade dining room and library furniture. It operated from 1901 to 1994. They operated out of Jamestown, New York, and specialized in beautiful reproductions.
