Description
This antique settee or loveseat is crafted from premium solid quartersawn chunky oak in the American Empire / Transition style, showcasing a warm golden honey finish that accentuates its strong, prominent ray-and-fleck wood grain. The piece features a high backrest topped with an elegant, organically carved crest rail displaying stylized acanthus leaves, scrollwork motifs, and detailed out-swept volutes at the corners. The back incorporates two distinct upholstered inset panels flanking a central wood divider, which matches the thickly cushioned seat below. All seating surfaces are finished in a muted green and gold geometric diamond-patterned fabric trim. Flat, wide armrests rest on block-and-ring turned front pillars, which extend into square, paneled block legs. A coordinating carved leaf medallion centers the lower front apron, while the underside reveals a tightly woven, supportive jute webbing grid reinforced with modern yellow foam padding for structural stability. A beautiful Victorian era piece that also lends well with Mission and Craftsman design.
