Description
Monumental Museum Quality high relief carved stand featuring a Man & Panther, circa first half 19th century. Meticulously carved from solid oak featuring the upper torso of a chizzled god with outstretched arms courting a serpent like leopard or panther around his shoulders. Reminiscent of Neptune or Poseidon. The man is centered between four contoured and scaled tail like supports leading up to rectangular form table top with molded leaf carved ogee edge. The carved center levitates over an X form base with acanthus carvings supported by robust bunt feet. Originally purchased from an English Great House in the 1970s and crated stateside from England.
Great for use as a pedestal, console table, bookstand, Entry piece, library or trophy stand. Truly a one of a kind furnishing.
