Rare antique 1876 bank note engraving commemorating the Centennial anniversary of the United States of America and advertising the Great Falls Company; produced by the American Bank Note Company.
New York: American Bank Note Co., 1876. Ephemera. Striking bank note engraved advertising broadside for the Great Falls Company, to be distributed at the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial Exposition, engraved by the leading high security engraving and printing firm of the day, the American Bank Note Company.
The engraving company was founded in 1795; it produced superior quality stock and bond certificates, currency and postage stamps. In 1858 the company was headquartered in New York City at 55 Wall Street, close to its financial clients. During the Civil War American Bank Note helped produce $60 million worth of notes authorized by Congress & known as ""greenbacks""; it also produced paper money for the Confederate government. After the war it supplied bank notes and security paper for 115 foreign nations.
The broadside is Illustrated with portraits of all 18 of the American presidents up to the year 1876, and the presidency of Ulysses S. Grant. The dates 1776-1876 are printed in a banner at the top, between these dates are portraits of Adams and Jefferson. George Washington's portrait is the largest, at the center of the broadside and flanked by flags; directly beneath his portrait are Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Johnson and Ulysses S. Grant. With a decorative border with all 36 of the state seals. Trade Mark and Registered 1876 printed beneath the bottom border.
