Description

Vintage Japanese okimono kabuto samurai helmet, in the style of the Genji periord of 1864-65. Made of iron and painted deep blood red with black and gold accents. Ocean waves crash along the side panels while the main section is flanked with two gold dragons at the base of brass wing or blade shaped protrusions. Along the crest sits a silver toned dragon with long whiskers. An orange cord is strung through the brim. A red and gold floral silk pillow is included for display.

Kabuto (兜, 冑) is a type of helmet first used by ancient Japanese warriors which, in later periods, became an important part of the traditional Japanese armour worn by the samurai class and their retainers in feudal Japan.
