An equisite Early American Plantation, clerk or mail Desk, Circa mid 19th C.. This exceptional 2 piece desk features a lower desk with hand dovetailed drawer over four hand turned legs. The hutch portion showcases a large drop or fall front opening to several pigeon holes and a centrally located drawer. Above the secretary is a two door glass display with two adjustable shelves. A truly remarkable timless cabinet with veratilty and charm.
Plantation desk were prodominately seen in the 19th century and used on Southern plantations to manage the day-to-day operations of the farm. It is a variation of the secretary style drop front desk, with a deeper bottom part that supports the fall front. The desk's work surface can be raised to close off the drawers and pigeonholes in front.
