Description
This elegant multi-functional Regency style game table was crafted around the turn of the 20th century. The structured tabletop is made from rich rosewood, exquisitely finished with crossbanding and detailed linear inlay, and framed beautifully by an ornate brass fretwork gallery. Includes one central drawer within the frieze with a circular brass ring drop handle featuring a hand-painted porcelain or enamel cameo insert depicting a romanticized, 18th-century style pastoral scene of a courting couple in a landscape. This decorative medallion is framed by a subtle beaded brass border that sits inside the movable ring mechanism. Running along the bottom edge of the frieze is a distinct geometric striping inlay, showcasing an alternating "checkerboard" or dentil-like pattern composed of contrasting light and dark wood veneer blocks. In contrast to the top, the rest of the table is meticulously built from mahogany, featuring dual sets of slender turned column uprights anchored by a triple-rail stretcher. This mahogany base sweeps out into classical legs that terminate in decorative brass lion-paw toe caps with integrated rolling casters, matching the central porcelain cameo drawer pull. Perfect for use as an end table, console or library table.
