Description

This pair of classical-style antique Argand lamps, dating to circa 1820–1830, is crafted from heavy cast gilt brass and patinated bronze with an elegant, opposing silhouette. Each lamp features an urn-shaped central fuel reservoir topped with a tiered, finial-capped lid, which sits upon a decorative pedestal base adorned with molded acanthus leaves and supported by a square plinth. Extending outward from each central urn is a single, sweeping, S-scroll support arm detailed with foliate relief carvings that carries fuel to the burner assembly. Each burner is fitted with a vintage, wide-rimmed glass shade featuring a frosted finish and an intricately etched floral pattern of leaves and berries. While originally engineered to burn whale or colza oil, these lamps have been subtly electrified for modern use, with electrical wiring carefully integrated into the burner housings. The overall design perfectly exemplifies the late Regency and Classical Revival aesthetic, balancing highly detailed, historical ornamentation with contemporary functionality.
