This rare and beautifully engineered vintage shoe store salesman fitting stool was manufactured by the historic McManis Table Company of Kirksville, Missouri. Known predominantly in the early-to-mid 20th century for fabricating highly specialized, heavy-duty medical equipment—such as their legendary adjustable osteopathic and chiropractic flexion tables—McManis applied that exact same level of industrial integrity and ergonomic mechanical design to a limited line of commercial retail furniture. This stool stands as a phenomenal, hard-to-find crossover piece showcasing mid-century utility, American commercial craftsmanship, and vintage retail history.

Structurally built for heavy department store use, the stool features a plush, rectangular seat upholstered in dark brown faux leather, complete with a distinctive padded roll bolster edge to comfortably support a salesperson as they leaned forward to assist customers. The industrial frame consists of a cream-enameled central pillar transitioning into a striking four-legged base heavily accented with gleaming brass plating and polished chrome trim, which served as protective guards against foot traffic.
