Description
75-inch-tall antique Golden Oak schoolhouse supply cabinet, bookkeeper’s standing secretary, bookcase or wardrobe, circa 1890. A massive and rare architectural statement piece. Standing over six feet tall, it is masterfully crafted from premium solid oak with a warm honey-toned finish that beautifully highlights the vibrant, matched quarter-sawn tiger oak graining. The upper body features a dramatic architectural header molding detailed with a continuous band of intricate egg-and-dart carvings, mirrored by decorative carved pilaster columns running down the front sides. Directly beneath, a wide slant-front locker lid lifts smoothly on heavy-duty rear hinges to reveal a deep, practical top storage well. The lower portion consists of substantial dual cupboard doors with a classic four-panel recessed design, centered by a single turned wooden pull knob and a brass keyhole insert. Swinging completely open, the doors reveal an exceptionally spacious, four-tier interior storage cavity divided by three sturdy shelves and backed entirely by premium, authentic vertical wood beadboard paneling that runs seamlessly from the top locker to the base. Resting on robust, bracketed cutout feet with a subtle arched front apron, this remarkably tall, functional, and character-rich late 19th century cupboard makes an incredible statement pantry, linen press, or entryway storage center.
