A beautiful set of 5 late Victorian curule seat chairs. Attributed to Stomps Burkhardt of Dayton, Ohio. Stomps was well known at the end of the Victorian era for these fun whimsical figural back chairs. They were often seen at the Chicago Worlds Fair on display in the 1890s.

Made from quartered oak with a saddle seat and figural back. The design comes from Ancient Rome and Europe through the early 20th century. Features Gothic, renaissance and classical inspiration.
