Description
8 Max Pearson for Knoll International red wool upholstered rolling swivel chairs, circa 1960s. Great for conference table or dining use. Tulip shaped padded seats over steel swivel rolling base. marked along underside.
Introduced in 1966, the Pearson Seating Collection display the playful organicism, rich color, and Space-Age sensibility that typifies the best of 1960s design, while prefiguring the plush luxury of the 1970s.
Unlike their slightly-older cousin, the Charles Pollock Executive Chair of 1965, the Pearson Executive Chairs are no longer in production. Thus, they’re less ubiquitous and they remain authentically connected to their own time.
Furthermore, Pearson took Pollock's own breakthrough and did him one better. The central concept of Pollock's design is ""rim technology"" - the band of aluminum that joins the structure of the seat and expresses the contour of the frame.
The Pearson chairs seem to be drawn from a single, fluid line, uninterrupted by any artificial constraints. Their organic, plant-like shape belies the efficiency of their construction, which eliminated the need for hand-sewing.
