Description

Antique late 1800’s cast iron painted mechanical William Tell coin piggy bank by J&E Stevens. Features Swiss folk hero William Tell with a musket rather than his traditional crossbow, aiming at the apple on his young son’s head. A slide on the top of the gun barrel is notched back and a coin is placed in front of it. Pressing Tell’s foot releases the the slide, shooting the coin over the child’s head and into the tower. Tell’s head also tips when the slide is depressed and flips back with the recoil of the gun when the mechanism is activated. The child’s hand raises when the apple is knocked off his head, acting as a lever to replace it.
