Description

Framed original watercolor painting by James Yoko, showing a simple clapboard house with a bicycle on the porch and two wagons or carts in the side yard with taller city buildings in the background. “James Yoko (January 24, 1916 – April 11, 2004) has demonstrated a remarkable versatility throughout a long and highly productive career. An important and dedicated member of the Dayton art community, he has had a strong connection to the dayton Art Institute. He was born in Youngstown, Ohio and studied art at Aliquippa High School in Pennsylvania. In 1938, he was awarded a scholarship to the School of the Dayton art Institute, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, and continued his education by taking several post-graduate courses with John King. He has shown his work in New York, California, Pennsylvania, and locally at the Butler Art Institute, the Dayton Art Institute, Miami Valley Cooperative Gallery, Rosewood Arts Center, Dayton YMCA, Rutledge Gallery, and Antioch College. His works reveal a consistent engagement with the styles, subject matter and materials of contemporary art throughout his career.”
