Description
A fine and impressive authentic Hepplewhite period console table, circa 1790s. Made from "Plum Pudding" Mahogany with a demilune, crescent or half moon form. Perfect for use as an entry console table or game table. Features two gate legs along the back side that swing out from wooden hinges to support the flip top. Includes banding along the frame and a green baize game surface. The top is supported by square form tapered legs leading to spade feet.
Plum pudding mahogany or Acajou is a very rare form of mahogany that is increasing hard to find. It resembles birdseye maple with large drips, or streaks running down the board. The look resembles raisins in plum pudding. It is predominantly used in fine period furniture and joinery.
Condition
Good Antique condition with some age related wear and distressing. Some alligatoring to finish, slight warp to top, small piece of veneer missing along front.
