The Computing Scale Company a precursor to IBM was founded in 1891 by Edward Canby and Orange O. Ozias in Dayton, Ohio. Its industry was computing scales and its headquarters remained in Dayton, Ohio. The Computing Scale Company of America was formed in 1901 as a holding company. In 1911, the firm merged with the International Time Recording Company and Tabulating Machine Company to form the Computing-Tabulating-Recording Company. The Computing Scale Company operated as a subsidiary until it was consolidated with other scale firms in 1923, forming the Dayton Scale Company.
