Description

Late 20th century pair of bedside tables by National Mt. Airy. Made from curly maple with three dovetailed drawers, ebonized trim, brass knocker handles, and branding along the top. Includes a locktable top drawer with diamond shaped escutcheon.

Mount Airy of North Carolina's roots go back to 1888 when the lumber and woodworking industry was booming. They had three large factories and quickly evolved into specialized furniture suites. They enjoyed a successful run until 1997 when a fire completely destroyed their facilities.

Biedermeier was an influential German style of furniture design that evolved from 1815–1848. Biedermeier was devoted to comfort and simplicity. Most often constructed along classical lines, it was usually made of light colored, woods like elm or fruit woods, but ash, walnut, maple, birch, beech, and even mahogany examples exist. Trim and accents were usually in contrasting black or gold paint.

Condition

Good Vintage condition; some edge wear from use, mostly by the edge of the foot along one.
