Description

Vintage heavy brass souvenir key fob advertising Hotel Elephant of Weimar, Germany. Includes original box and insert.

“The Hotel Elephant is an historic luxury hotel with a history dating back to 1696. The current hotel was built in 1938. This hotel, on the southern side of the market square, is the oldest accommodation mentioned in the history of Weimar. Opened in 1696, it served as an inn for merchants. Celebrities of the classical and post-classical period such as Grillparzer, Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Liszt, Wagner and Rubinstein stayed in this traditional house. Thomas Mann described life in the hotel during the classical period in his novel ""Lotte in Weimar"" which was adapted for the screen in 1975 using original site. It was completely rebuilt in 1938 and became the favourite place to stay for Hitler. Re-opened after World War II, it now belongs to the best hotels in town.”
