Description

A remarkable French Bronze sculpture of Acteon by Adrein Etienne Gaudez. The statue is sculpted in lifelike detail, featuring Acteon with a bird in his outstretched arm, standing on one leg with a French horn in his other arm. Includes a neat Cartouche label surrounded by a bat and horn. The bronze is signed along the top of the base and rests on a marble plinth.

In Greek mythology, Actaeon is a hunter and hero from Thebes who is transformed into a deer and killed by his hounds after seeing Artemis bathing. Actaeon is the son of Aristaeus, a minor god and herdsman, and Autonoe, daughter of Cadmus, the founder of Thebes. Actaeon is also a member of the ruling House of Cadmus through his mother.
