Description

Pair of two vintage Paul Robert Quinn 7010 arm chairs featuring linen fabric with rolled back and padded arms over turned legs.

Paul Robert Inc was established in 1983 by Paul Robert Dickinson. After 30 years in the furniture business, he pursued his dream of starting his own manufacturing company.

1983
BACK TO SCHOOL
While searching for the perfect spot to launch his new business, Paul Dickinson landed in Taylorsville, North Carolina, in the heart of the furniture industry. More specifically, in the old Happy Plains School, which closed in the late 1960s and served as county offices until 1983. Paul brought his vision to life within these walls, rehabilitating the school into the home of Paul Robert.

1985
HUMBLE BEGINNINGS
Production began in the gymnasium of the school for the first year, while the new county offices were completed. As orders increased, they used the entire schoolhouse and started planning an addition.

1989
THE FIRST CHAIRS
Paul Robert began selling promotional chairs under their official corporate name, Paul Robert Chair Inc. Wing chairs and swivel rockers were so popular in the 1980s that department stores promoted multiple versions in a color wheel of velvets and textures. Customers were so pleased with the design and quality that they asked Paul Robert to provide sofas as well.

1992
EXPANSION #1
As Paul Robert outgrew their space, they added a second building on the property, allowing for expanded production and additional staff.

2005
EXPANSION #2
To keep up with demand, Paul Robert purchased another building 10 miles away to accommodate frame storage and assembly, first stage of production and space for future machinery to be added.

2020
A NEW ERA
Dan Dickinson took the helm as president with an increased focus on team members, production efficiency and environmental impact. He invested in computer-aided design and automated upholstery cutting machines in order to increase accuracy, improve material yield and reduce menial tasks and fatigue for artisans.

2024

TODAY AND TOMORROW
Paul Robert is committed to innovation and balancing old-world craftsmanship with high-tech process automation to create the highest-quality product possible. An automated leather cutting system was added, as well as 3D imaging and fabric draping which allows for visualization earlier in the process, saving time and material cost. In addition, Paul Robert now does complete frame production and wood finishing in house.
