Description

This antique double-arm Argand lamp is a classic early 19th-century lighting fixture crafted from polished and cast brass. It features a central, elevated, urn-form reservoir that historically held fuel such as whale or vegetable oil, allowing gravity to feed the liquid downward. The oil travels through two symmetrical horizontal arms decorated with delicate openwork scroll accents. Each arm terminates in a burner socket fitted with an frosted glass chimney. The shades feature a subtle, wheel-cut floral design that tapers gently outward at the top rim to diffuse light and reduce glare. Over the years, this historical piece has been electrified for modern use, replacing the traditional burners with electrical sockets to safely illuminate contemporary spaces. The entire structure is anchored by an ornate, tiered central shaft that transitions into a fluted, flared column, terminating at a solid, square brass base supported by short bun feet.
