8 Antique 19th Century French Louis XVI Provincial Brown Leather Dining Chairs

Description

Exceptional set of 8 antique French Louis XVI Dining Chairs, circa mid-19th century. Features iconic styling with a hardwood frame painted in white, with brown leather upholstered seat and back. The finish has a rich patina from years of use, allowing the natural undertone, which appears to be fruitwood, to be seen throughout the chairs. Each chair is supported by ring-turned tapered and fluted legs with carved French medallions along each corner. The upholstery has a bronze-finished nailhead trim.

Provenance: Jesse Philips
Mr. Philips was both a retailer, as an owner of a Dayton department store, and a manufacturer who transformed a tiny window company into Philips Industries, an enterprise that was sold in 1990 for about $550 million to a British company.

Condition

Fair; Structurally Solid, distressing from use and age. Past restorations. Some of the brown leather seats have a blue cast to the graining
