Description
A beautiful Hepplewhite style sideboard or server by Schmieg & Kotzian, circa 1930s. Features a demilune form made from mahogany with a breakfront center having two graduated hand dovetailed drawers. The large lower drawer has an arched and recessed front with faux tambour motif that opens front the bottom. Central drawers are flanked by outer cabinets with shelves. The front of the case showcases flame mahogany and satinwood veneer. The case is supported by four fluted and tapered legs.
Schmieg & Kotzian were apprentices to prominent London furniture manufacturers. The two formed a partnership and moved to New York to establish a reputable firm. They were known for producing high quality furnishing with exotic woods and veneers.
