Description

This exceptional c.1810 Georgian-style stick barometer features a stately, longcase mahogany cabinet in the form of a clock designed to hang flush against a wall. The upper hood is crowned with an elegant swan-neck pediment and a turned acorn finial, protecting a rare, highly detailed dual-season dial plate. The dial is symmetrically divided into "SUMMER" and "WINTER" tracking scales framed by ornate Rococo scrollwork and engraved terrestrial globes. A manual rod pointer tracks barometric shifts along the central Torricellian glass tube. The trunk opens via a long hinged panel to reveal the continuous internal tube, which terminates into a flared pedestal base featuring a striking, book-matched burl veneer front panel. The reverse retains its original hand-cut timber backboard and a heavy wrought-iron mounting loop.
