Description
A very large and impressive vintage Daffodils watercolor painting by Deborah Rubin. A luminous and energetic depiction of white daffodils (Narcissus) in full bloom. It combines botanical accuracy with bold contrasts of sunlight and shadow, creating a scene that feels both vibrant and serene. Signed lower right in pen.
The artist arranges a dense cluster of daffodils across the width of the canvas, allowing the flowers to overlap naturally as they would in a garden. Tall green stems rise from the bottom edge, anchoring the composition, while the blossoms create an undulating line of white petals and vivid orange centers.
Unlike a formal bouquet, this is clearly an outdoor scene. The flowers seem to grow freely among surrounding shrubs and trees, suggesting the viewer has stepped into the garden and is looking directly into the planting.
Deborah Rubin is one of the foremost floral watercolor painters in the country. Born in Chicago in 1948, Rubin holds a BFA from the University of Illinois. Her flowers have formed the base of over 50 exhibitions, garnered nearly 20 awards and have found their way into dozens of permanent collections. Deborah’s paintings combine a spectacular large scale with brilliant light and meticulous detail. She has been pushing the boundaries of photo-realism and hyper-realism since the mid 1970s with an eye on nature and more recently, architecture. She currently lives in western Massachusetts.
