Description

Impressive antique Japanese blue-and-white porcelain octagonal Imari plate with a scalloped, fluted rim. Hand-painted underglaze blue (sometsuke) featuring a central arrangement of lotus or chrysanthemum flowers alongside a butterfly. Framed by a geometric, stylized and scrolled inner border with calligraphy and a dense floral and foliage pattern. Circa mid 19th century.
