Description
Antique Rookwood cream pitcher and underplate dish / saucer by Sallie Toohey. It features a floral themed iris glaze with pink and white flowers, and ribbed and scalloped accents. Circa 1888 / 1889, Shape 193 and 460.
Sarah Alice Toohey "Sallie" was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1872. She created a wide range of works during her tenure at Rookwood Pottery from 1887 until 1931, although in the latter years she took over management of the glaze department and did little decorating. She died on November 5, 1941 in Cincinnati, Ohio and is buried in the Irish St. Joseph Cemetery. Collector interest in her pieces is considered to be above average.
