Description
Antique 18th century tooled leather document dispatch box / camp chest, lock box / casket / coffer featuring domed rectangular form with geometric repeating accents, brass handle and paper lined interior. These boxes were used in the American Revolutionary War era by soldiers to store personal effects at army camps and for sending documents. This chest came from a prominent military family with multiple officers participating in wars throughout the 18th and 19th centuries.
