Description

Antique mid 19th century open face remontoir pocket watch. A remontoir (french: remonter – 'to wind') is a pocket watch in which the key winding mechanism was replaced with a winding button. It was invented in 1842 by Adrien Philippe and gained in popularity from 1870 forward. Watch features Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic umerals for the seconds, brass hands, and a shield circled in flowers on the back. Interior of the three part butterfly case is marked Metal 207993 2, 10 Rubis, 0.800 D&R, and a crescent moon next to a crown. Works feature an Advance and Retard control and a mark showing a rooster or chicken and several chicks. Displayed in a wood and plastic bell jar case.
