An antique Thomas Turner English Victorian era writing desk. Made from solid mahogany with a tooled red leather inset top. Features 2 hand dovetailed drawers within the frieze, square tapered legs with stretchers and turned spindle design in-between, a trestle base and brass casters. Makers mark along the top edge of drawer.
Thomas Turner was a well known and respected cabinet maker working in Manchester, England in the first half of the 19th century. Royal accounts describe the high-quality furniture Thomas Turner supplied in the 1830s. He continued to be recorded in the Lord Chamberlain’s accounts until 1845 and was listed in the 1845 London Post Office Directory as upholsterer to Her Majesty and the Queen Dowager.
