Description

Odalisque" Contemporary School Oil Painting After Lord Frederick Leighton. An oil on canvas framed in gold. The original painting by Leighton was painted in 1862 and currently resides in a private collection.

Lord Frederic Leighton was a British painter, draughtsman, and sculptor. His works often depicted biblical, historical, and classical subjects. In 1862 he produced ‘Odalisque’ an oil on canvas painting depicting a young woman wearing a loose gown holding a peacock fan in her left hand. The painting was inspired by the chambermaids who worked in seraglio’s, Turkish living quarters used by wives of an Ottoman household.
