Description
Rare discontinued, late 20th century, Pantone / GIA Hue Wheel GemSet. Set of 50 gem shaped paddles for use in color grading of natural gemstones by jewelers and gemologists. White fabric covered plastic base with black hard plastic cover.
"The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) used to distribute plastic color masters created by Pantone as a color grading reference for the Colored Gems Industry. They argued that the plastic comparison "gems" gave a more realistic representation of color than any flat media could. Used in combination with Normalised Color Wheel, Tone and Saturation Scale this was the perfect instrument combination before the apparition of Computarized System like Gemewizard which is able nowadays to identify "on a click" 1116 Colors Classifying 31 Hue's on 6 Tones and 6 Levels of Saturations. The Complete version included 324 Color Samples on a three trays storage case. The most common version seems to be the "Hue Wheel" GemSet. In 2007, X-Rite acquired Pantone, the company making the color masters. Thus, unfortunately, they are no longer produced." (Source: Internatinal Gem society / Dominican Amber Fossils)
