Description
Circa mid-20th century impressionist oil on canvas painting distributed by the W.T. Burger Co., Inc., depicting a charming country landscape centered on a shepherd driving a flock of sheep down the road. Signed Heyden in the lower right corner (first name unclear). Beveled resin frame with egg and dart detail and gold finish; white linen mat. Original tag and description of the artist on the reverse.
Heyden was born in Bayern, Germany, in 1907. He studied art at first in his own home in Bayern and later at the Fine Arts Academy in Munich. He particularly liked to go hunting on horseback and found that this became his special interest as well in art. Many times he would make on-the-spot sketches of the horsemen when they were coming through the forest. One can see that he does an excellent job of capturing the excitement and movement of this particular motif. The demand for his paintings has become quite high, and many of them can be found in leading galleries and private collections throughout Europe and America.
