The original mythological masterpiece was painted in the late 17th century. In the painting Perseus is shown holding the head of Medusa, which turns "Phineus and his followers to stone". He cannot look for obvious reasons. The oil is on canvas with natural craquelure to give the canvas an aged look. Singed to the lower right. Signature Illegible, circa last quarter 20th century. Framed in Baroque manner with ornate scalloping.
