Vintage print - Plate 31 pulled from a Russian manuscript book showing text and an illuminated scene from the Persian mystical poem Shaykh (Sheikh) Sanan and the Christian Maiden by Sufi poet Farid ud-Din Attar. Sheikh Sanan is the longest story in the book The Conference of the Birds, written in Southern Iran in 1472. The Sheikh tends the pigs to prove his love for the Greek Christian maiden. Text underneath reads (approx.): 31. The companions who came to inquire about Sheikh San'an, who was tending pigs. The language is very clear. Beveled wood frame with gold inner edge.
