Description
American Victorian Era Buffet or sideboard. Features a cherry frame with two knapp jointed drawers over lower cabinet with shelf. Drawers and cabinet doors have cross lined grooves. This is flanked by striped stiles along the outer edge. Drawer handles are porcelain and lower cabinet has a metal latch. A beautiful cabinet with minalist styling for the era lending well with modern farmhouse and country styling.
The Knapp joint was developed during the late Victoria Era in post Civil War United States. Patented by Charles Knapp of Waterloo, WI in 1867, the Knapp Joint was a huge breakthrough for the furniture industry; machines called routers made circular cuts in wood far quicker than by hand. The Knapp Joint is particularly unique to furniture as it was only used from 1870 until 1900. It is also referred to as the Pin and Cove Drawer.
