Description

This monumental Renaissance Revival pier mirror showcases the grand architectural scale and classical vocabulary characteristic of the late 19th-century movement. The heavily carved, gilded composition is anchored by an imposing cresting pediment, centered by a sculpted human mascaron surrounded by scrolling acanthus leaves, volutes, and palmette acroteria at the shoulders. Below the molded entablature, the elongated frame mimics classical pilasters adorned with relief panels, inset rosettes, and foliate carvings. The gently arched mirror plate is tightly framed by an inner beaded border, drawing the eye upward to the dramatic crown and exemplifying the opulent historicism of the period.
