Description

Up for consideration is a remarkable reclaimed early 20th century handmade ceiling. A reproduction made from the ceiling in the "Mantegna Chapel" of the Ca d'Oro Palace in Venice. Donated to the Dayton Art Institute in 1929. These beautiful tiles are made in a high relief polychrome design from wood with paint, gold leaf and gesso. 97 Tiles in total.

The original ceiling came from a 15th century building in Ferrara, Italy. It is placed in a small chapel of the Ca d'Oro Palace amongst a painting of St. Sebastian by Andrea Mantegna. The room is in early renaissance fashion with elegant stone walls, tiled floors and this beautiful ceiling in an elaborate medallion motif. 25 tiles make up the original ceiling.
