Antique late 18th century George III Liverpool creamware / ironware / transferware jug with black transfer design titled Susan’s Farewell, showing a woman on the shore, waving her handkerchief at departing ships on one side, with a full view of a single sailboat / frigate / ship on the reverse which is flying the British flag with an anchor, canon and drum in the foreground. Adieu she cry’d and wav’d her Lily Hand”, as the fleet is leaving. Liverpool transferware was a popular 18th-19th century product intended for American consumption. These pieces often had patriotic scenes, ships and caricatures of famous Americans. Jugs or pitchers such as this were often used for punch or similar drink.
