Description
A lovely Victorian era washstand, circa 1880s. Made from walnut with burled and fluted panels. Features 3 drawers with Knapp Joint Dovetailing and a side cabinet for storage. Includes a while marble top, ornate brass drawer pulls, metal casters for ease of movement and a unique pullout bar for towels or rags.
The Knapp joint was developed during the late Victoria Era in post Civil War United States. Patented by Charles Knapp of Waterloo, WI in 1867, the Knapp Joint was a huge breakthrough for the furniture industry; machines called routers made circular cuts in wood far quicker than by hand. The Knapp Joint is particularly unique to furniture as it was only used from 1870 until 1900. It is also referred to as the Pin and Cove Drawer.
