Description

An antique Victorian chest of drawers, circa 1880s. Made from walnut with three Knapp joint drawers featuring raised burlwood veneer and knocker pulls. The dreser has hinged gloveboxes along the top, chamfered stiles and rests on casters.

The Knapp joint was developed during the late Victoria Era in post Civil War United States. Patented by Charles Knapp of Waterloo, WI in 1867, the Knapp Joint was a huge breakthrough for the furniture industry; machines called routers made circular cuts in wood far quicker than by hand. The Knapp Joint is particularly unique to furniture as it was only used from 1870 until 1900. It is also referred to as the Pin and Cove Drawer.

Condition

Good Antique Condition; Age and use related wear. Farmhouse / Country odor. Heavy distressing to the top.
