Description

Vintage 76 piece embossed white floral Limoges porcelain dinnerware set with service for 8 in the Hawthorne (Hawthorn) pattern. Produced by Ceralene / A. Raynaud et Cie of Limoges, France. Variety of marks suggest this set was purchased and pieced together over a number of years.

Hawthorne – This charming, all-white, embossed floral pattern was originally made, circa 1784, by the Pont-aux-Choux factory, a small workshop well known to collectors. The name, “Pont-aux-Choux,” meaning “Bridge of the Cabbages,” has become associated among connoisseurs with embossed motifs and flowers, always plain white, and strongly reminiscent of silver patterns, which is natural enough since the section in question was the center of the silversmith industry in 18th Century Paris. The original of this plate is at the Louvre Museum.
