This antique 19th Century mahogany Sheraton-style writing desk is a refined example of Neoclassical design, balancing a delicate, high-clearance silhouette with functional storage. Crafted from rich mahogany, the desk features a distinctive variegated marble slab inset smoothly within its wooden top perimeter, offering a cool and durable workspace. The front is arranged in a classic five-drawer kneehole configuration, consisting of a wide central drawer flanked on either side by two vertically stacked hand dovetailed drawers. Each drawer face is meticulously bordered by contrasting geometric wood stringing inlay and fitted with a centrally placed, oval brass keyhole escutcheon plate. Maintaining the visual lightness characteristic of the period, the desk stands on slim, square-tapered legs that terminate in simple spade feet, all reinforced by a low, rectangular wooden stretcher rail connecting the rear and side legs for structural stability.
