Antique Italian Majolica Footed Banana Leaf Centerpiece Monteith Bowl 26"

Description

Exquisite large antique Italian Majolica centerpiece monteith bowl / compote featuring a banana leaf design with floral vine handle and footed base. The vessel itself is shaped like a large, elongated green plantain or banana leaf with highly realistic ribbing, textured veins, and a scalloped, naturalistic rim. The exterior is coated in a glossy bright green glaze, while the interior features a contrasting gilded 24k gold leaf lining. On the side of the rim, there is an intricate, hand-painted floral cluster consisting of small white flowers with yellow centers growing out of an earthy orange vine / stem. The leaf bowl rests upon a decorative, heavy rectangular pedestal base. The plinth features a dark purple middle section topped and bottomed with elaborate gold scrollwork trimming, framing a central frieze of small blue flowers.
