Description
Late 19th-early 20th century oil on canvas painting by Rezső Kárpáty. Shows a picturesque mountain landscape, focused on a hooded shepherd and his flock, walking in front of a stand of trees. Double layered giltwood frame heavily carved with low relief foliate designs.
Rezső Rudolf Kárpáty (Szepesigló, 1857 - Budapest, 1917.): Painter. He trained as a technician, and only later switched to painting, in which he achieved success with his delicate and atmospheric landscapes (mainly painted details of the countryside of Budapest). He trained in Munich. He appeared in the Műcsarnok with his landscapes. The Hungarian National Gallery preserves several of his works.
