Description
Vintage 1972 Swaim Originals Brown Leather Wingback Chair. This incredible piece of high-end furniture history is a premium creation by Swaim, a maker renowned for exceptional bench-made American seating, and is verified as an October 9, 1972 floor sample from the iconic Bloomingdale Brothers flagship store on Lexington Ave in New York City. Part of the elite Swaim Originals collection, the armchair is upholstered in its gorgeous original rich brown leather and styled with dramatic high-sweeping wings and robust rolled arms. It features meticulous, hand-applied antiqued brass nailhead trim accenting the entire border and lower apron. Elevated by an antique French walnut-finished wood frame, it features graceful Queen Anne cabriole front legs. The traditional interior body filling includes a premium blend of 70% cotton felt and 30% curled cattletail hair beneath a comfortable cushion. Retaining its completely intact original Swaim and Bloomingdale's floor sample tags, this stately library chair is in very good vintage condition, structurally rock-solid with beautiful leather patination, gentle creasing, and minor cosmetic scuffs on the wooden legs consistent with its vintage pedigree.
