The original painting of President Jefferson Davis was by Louis Mathieu Didier Guillaume circa 1862-1865 and hangs in R. W. Norton Art Gallery, Shreveport, Louisiana. Jefferson Davis was born in Christian County, Kentucky, on June 3, 1808. After a distinguished military career, Davis served as a U.S. senator and as secretary of war under Franklin Pierce before his election as the president of the secessionist Confederate States of America. Jefferson Finis Davis was an American politician who served as the president of the Confederate States from 1861 to 1865. As a member of the Democratic Party, he represented Mississippi in the United States Senate and the House of Representatives before the American Civil War.
